Read Proverbs 30.
I continued to march forward. The darkness was dense, and my sight was scarce. The scent of pine filled my every breath. It’s cold, it’s dark, my senses are overburdened with the exhausting demand to focus on what is most important. I must press on. To stop now would be to embrace defeat and possible death. As I continue on, twilight illuminates the path ahead. My tired mind and worn body energize with excitement. I focus my eyes on an opening at the edge of the forest, for the light has shown me the way home.
Many of us have been in such a place in our lives. We may not have been lost in a forest but have been lost in life. Discouragement and undesired circumstances may have derailed your approach to God and His plans for your life. In these times, we should focus our spiritual eyes to help us arrive at our desired destination.
In doing so, we must look inward (Proverbs 30:1-9). We must ask ourselves hard questions and give honest answers. The first step to finding your way home is to admit you’re lost. Blindly pressing on in life only leads to dead ends. Humility is the first step to deliverance.
A second step is to look upward (Proverbs 30:10-14). Humankind may attempt to exalt themselves with their mouths, but their souls have been cursed with sin. Praise be to God that Jesus bore that sin and made a way for us to come home!
We must ask ourselves hard questions and give honest answers. Click To TweetA last step is to look outward (Proverbs 30:15-33). This world is dark and dying. It will tempt you with uncontrollable appetites, false status, and fake strength—all designed to stray your way from God’s righteous path.
Regardless of where you are today, fix your eye to the Light, and He will lead you home.
Reflective Questions:
- Have you ever been lost? What were your primary emotions? How did it feel once you were found? Have you felt lost with God? How did it feel when you found Him?
- Is it more difficult for you to look inward, upward, or outward? How can you grow in each area?
- In verses seven through nine, the author shares two requests. If you were to ask God for two “requests,” what would they be?
Memory Verse:
Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Proverbs 30:5
Prayer:
Dear God, thank you for the light that will always lead me home. Help me to look inward, upward, and outward as I fix my eyes on You.
