Pastor Gary Phelps and the people of Oak Hill Baptist did a tremendous job welcoming the Baptist Bible Fellowship to Somerset. It was clear from the very first minute of our arrival this would be a unique and blessed week. The friendliness and attention of the Oak Hill people were based upon an intentional season of prayer and fasting for the pastors and missionaries of our Fellowship.
I was told there were about 300 out-of-town guests registered for this fellowship meeting. Oak Hill has long been a strong supporter of our BBFI, and it was a joy to visit this great church. The facilities are in top shape, and it seems to me that it is indicative of everything they do as a church. The music they shared in each service was absolutely the very best. Additionally, the staff was genuinely helpful and kind.
Our meetings always seem to revolve around the messages preached in our general sessions. We feasted on outstanding bible messages brought by men that were well prepared and spiritually ready. The three evening keynote speakers: Phil Housley, Mark Hoover, and Al Mohler, stirred our hearts and challenged us to do more for Christ.
I appreciated the wonderful spotlight on missions and missionaries throughout the conference. Each morning and evening, we heard and saw beautiful reports and biblical messages from some of our best missionaries. I’ve said it before and will again: Some of the greatest missionaries in the world are BBFI missionaries.
We had announced and scheduled an open “town hall” meeting on Monday afternoon. This was well-received by the pastors in attendance. I stated from the beginning this meeting would not be a meeting to arrive at decisions. The purpose was to allow an opportunity for pastors and missionaries to state their opinions, ask questions, and share ideas. We ended this time with prayer for our fellowship and specifically our entities. I will communicate a more detailed report of the town hall forum.
And now, we look forward to our February meeting with Pastor Dustin Janney and the Orlando Baptist Church.
