SHREVEPORT, LA — Writers and aspiring authors gathered on December 10-11 on the campus of Louisiana Baptist University for the Elmer Towns School of Authorship, a two-day seminar designed to guide participants from a blank page to a published manuscript. Organized and taught by Randy Harp, BBFI Central Office director and editor of the Baptist Bible Tribune, the event equipped attendees with practical strategies and motivation to complete their writing goals.
The seminar emphasized three core areas:
- Purpose – Discovering the “why” behind their writing projects.
- Process – Learning actionable steps to advance their manuscripts.
- Push – Gaining encouragement and tools to cross the finish line to publication.
Former Baptist Bible Tribune editor Keith Bassham also contributed to the seminar, sharing insights through video content.
A key challenge issued to participants was to complete the final manuscript of their books within six months. Tribune Publishing and Global Surge Press were introduced as viable publishing options for authors ready to bring their work to market. Projects in development by attendees include children’s books, devotional works, and even the transformation of a Ph.D. dissertation into a publishable book.
One attendee, Greg Lyons, expressed his enthusiasm for the experience: “This seminar was exactly what I needed to help me get my second book finished.”
The seminar offered a comprehensive look at the craft and business of writing through eight engaging sessions. Some topics included The Writing Process, Building a Writing Routine, Tools for Writing, and The Business of Writing, providing a well-rounded approach to authorship.
With the success of this inaugural event, plans are already underway to host additional seminars, with a goal of two in 2025.
For those with dreams of becoming published authors, the Elmer Towns School of Authorship serves as a valuable resource, combining education, inspiration, and a practical roadmap to transform ideas into published works.
