On Sunday, January 9, 2022, Eddie Lyons celebrated his 20th anniversary as pastor of High Street Baptist Church. The church hosted a special reception at 9:30 AM to allow members and guests to express their appreciation to Lyons and his wife, Cindy. A single unified service at 10:30 with many special guests, including Ken McClure, mayor of Springfield, MO. McClure made a public proclamation stating that January 9, 2022, was Eddie and Cindy Lyons day in Springfield. Jon Slayden, pastor of Hope Community Church in Midland, TX, was the special guest preacher and spoke on the topic of Living to Leave a Legacy. Slayden served on staff at High Street from 2008-2014. The church presented gifts to the Lyons.
Prior to accepting the call to be the pastor of High Street Baptist Church, the Lyons family served as missionaries to the Philippines. Under Lyons’ leadership, the church not only maintained a strong heritage of missions support, but it has grown. High Street Baptist Church currently supports over 160 missionaries and missionary projects, including 29 missionaries sent out from the church. Over the past 20 years, High Street Baptist Church has given over $9 million to missions.
Lyons commented on the day, “I am humbled, and I am thankful that God has allowed me to serve this great church. My prayer is that we will continue to love God, serve people, and reach the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
