Those were not the words of congratulations I expected to hear from my son. The reality of his observation made us laugh. Yet, how do you explain choosing to step out of the boat onto a sea of uncharted waves? I tried to assure my son (read, myself) that I was strong in faith but I found myself silently replying, “You’re right. It is crazy.”
But, isn’t that what faith is all about? If you can see it … if you can explain it … it’s probably not faith. Steps of faith cause others to say, “You’re crazy.” Sarah laughed when she heard the words of promise. Thomas doubted as he declared his faith required physical proof.
Experience says that steps of faith are birthed in the heart. There is a perceived value in the results. It’s based on a hope that God is actually at work and it usually desires for others to step out and walk together. If no one responds, faith will choose to walk alone. In God’s world it’s the right thing to do.
Baptist Bible College is experiencing a few waves. They are not a tsunami, but nevertheless a strong storm is present. This college is a living organism. She is continuing the purpose of her founders — enter to learn, go forth to serve. Eternity has been impacted by souls saved, churches started, missionaries sent, and minds and hearts trained by His Word and heaven’s servants. Friendships have been forged here. Many have met the love of their lives while walking these halls. A few pranks have been pulled (don’t ask how I know that), but the college is alive. She is spiritually well while physically hurting.
By faith, my wife and I have stepped out with no promise other than, “Lo, I am with you always …” I am tasked to bid others to step out with us. There is a great need for a unified step of faith. So, allow me to say, “Step out and come stand on the waves.” You’re a vital part of the solution and we need your help. Who cares if someone yells, “Hey, you’re crazy for doing that!” You’ll find yourself silently agreeing while filled with hope that God is at work for His glory.
Isn’t that what faith is all about?
