The atmosphere of Fellowship week was incredibly powerful. The worship was powerful; the preaching was powerful, and the vision for the future was powerful. It was a wonderful week — the perfect ending to a very busy college year.
It seems like every year is the busiest ever—but once again this past college year seems like the busiest ever. With two very busy semesters, every week with classes, activities, two chapel services and this year we hosted a visit from each of our accrediting agencies – one in the fall and one in the spring semester. Most colleges have a visit once every five or ten years. Not us, we had two in four months! All the busyness had us looking forward to Fellowship Week.
National meeting Mondays begin with the BBFI National Officers and leaders of the Communication Office, Mission Office and colleges sharing updates. Then state representatives gather, and the different committees meet to discuss reports from the various national officers.
Monday evening began with powerful music before Jon Slayden, BBFI 2nd VP spoke on the importance of being adequately trained for the work of the ministry. Our colleges are important and need our support.
Following the service, we enjoyed what has become a favorite Fellowship Week event, the Party in the Caf Pit. For a couple of hours, old friends and new friends enjoyed tasty treats outside. This is a great event put together and staffed by the BBC Food Service under the direction of Randy Bates.
Tuesday and Wednesday were just as busy. Hearing from BBFI National Officers Jon Haley, Michael Haley and Sean Sears in the morning and Brian Moore in the evening service. The day started with breakout sessions, a great ladies event that featured Hurtz Donuts and then a special afternoon session that focused on revitalizing churches.
Wednesday morning began with a packed Alumni Breakfast. We heard from some past and some current BBC students. Thank you for loving your BBC.
Missions morning followed, and it was exciting to see five new missionary families approved for various works along with honoring some wonderful and experienced missionaries.
Wednesday evening featured a tremendous forward-thinking challenge from BBFI president Tim Adrian. We were challenged to look ahead and to consider some important changes that can help us move forward as a Fellowship.
Thursday, BBC Graduation is always special. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to say goodbye to these great young men and women. We are so excited about their potential and love for the Lord and His Word. We also gave a special honor to Jim and Debbie Goodman. Their ministry life and commitment to their local church ministry, as well as the BBFI and BBC, are an example to us all.
Even though we are just hours removed from a great week, we have already begun to consider the possibilities for next year. Please note, Fellowship Week 2019, May 4-7. This will be our 70th Anniversary. We will celebrate with old friends and great memories. Please mark your calendar now to make sure you don’t miss this meeting.
Great thanks to the many that make Fellowship Week a great experience. All the staff that served in setting up and making sure the facilities were ready, the security team for helping everyone park and get to the Fieldhouse even in the rain, the food service under the direction of Randy Bates made our Monday night party and all week a lovely experience, the faculty and their willingness to jump in and serve at the end of a tiring semester, the worship team led by Nate Harmon was fantastic. And of course our students, so many compliments regarding the great atmosphere set by the spirit, the excitement and the quality of our students. Thank you all!
